Roman altar (Bywell)
[NZ 04846149] In the churchyard was found a portion of a Roman altar. It is now in the chancel of St Andrew's Church. (1)
In the position, as described, is a fragment of stone 0.5 x 0.4 x 0.2m thick with a band of 'castellated' ornament incised on all four sides. [see also NZ 06 SW 15]. (2)
The stone, correctly described above, is not identifiable as part of an altar. Its exact find-spot could not be ascertained. (3)
General association with HER 10062 (St Andrew's Church). (4)
