Farnley hoard (Corbridge)

A hoard of bronze implements, the greater part of which is in Alnwick Museum, is listed as having been found at Farnley in 1835, about 13ft below the surface during railway cutting operations. The hoard includes four fragments of two spearheads (nos 250,251, 252 and 245), fragments of dagger blades (no 239) and a flanged axe with stop ridge and loop (no 195). (1)(2)

The spearhead fragments are now in the Blackgate Museum. (3)

Area centred NZ 00346306 - approximately sited by W P Hedley, Hon Corr Corbridge, who could however, furnish no further information. (4)

Blade fragments from Group 4 (Blades with flat mid-sections). From Farnley. Wallington phase. In Alnwick Museum. (5)

Farnley hoard. Dirk or rapier blade fragment, 65mm long x 15mm wide. Associated with a looped palstave, six spearheads with protected openings (three lost), a leaf-shaped spearhead, and other fragments. In Alnwick Castle Museum. (6)
