Welton Hall, Roman milestone (Stamfordham; Horsley)

[Area centred NZ 065682] A cylindrical milestone (no recorded dimension) found in 1813 close against Hadrian's Wall nearly opposite Welton Hall. It was cut into several pieces in order to raise it; one piece was lost before Hodgson saw it in 1817. The other pieces are now lost. [Text restored by Birley based on Hodgson's MSS notes]. (1)
