Eastgate hoard, found near to Hag-Gate Farmhouse, Stanhope (Eastgate)
Bronze Age hoard found under some large stones near the River Wear, not far from Hag-gate Farmhouse, circa 1812. It comprised leaf shaped spearheads, a knife ferrule, socketed axes, a spear shaft ferrule, gouge, hammer and pieces of metal. Cowen (1971) traced the whereabouts of the still-complete hoard to a resident of Westmorland, but did not disclose their identity or address. (2) (4)
