Gaunless Bridge Abutments and accommodation bridge, West Auckland
This is the site of the world's first iron railway bridge, built in 1825 as part of the Stockton and Darlington route. The bridge crossed the river Gaunless by four spans of 12 feet 6 inches each. The ironwork of the bridge is now in the National Transport Museum, York, though the stone abutments are still visible on site, in good condition.
