A pair of earthwork platforms were constructed here on either side of the Stockley Gill to allow passage along Dere Street to be achieved ease. These abutments are noted as high above the level of the stream and as flattened platforms. Similar examples are known elsewhere in the county; timber bridges are presumed in the absence of any dressed stonework being found. (1)
