Dinsdale Moor Iron Works, Middleton St. George
A watching brief has been made on the Dinsdale Moor Iron Works during site clearance work and the excavation of foundation trenches. This has shown that the topsoil over the site has been imported to the site upon the demolition of the iron works. In other places the demolition debris of the iron works was encountered with window glass, brick and tile, slag and some ironwork. In places the supports for the features of the building, such as furnace and mountings for a steam engine, are noted. Identifications of the buildings have been made in a combination of the archaeological, field-based, and historical, map-based, work.
Post medieval/twentieth century iron works are visible as earthworks on air photographs. The features have been levelled on the latest 2018 vertical photographs.
