Public art "Flower Mine" at Stanley (Stanley)

"Flower Mine" © Sustain 2007
This is an earthwork memorial designed by Ken Turnell. It commemorates the 1909 Burns Pit Disaster which cost the lives of 168 men and boys. The shallow mounds and seasonal ox-eye daisies show and fade as the light changes. This one of a series of pieces of public art built along the Coast to Coast (C2C) cycle path.
