Romano-British field system, Forcegarth, Upper Teesdale (Forest-in-Teesdale)

AI reference: 151882
AI reference: 151882
This is a Romano-British field system, which is associated with two enclosed hut circle settlements. This is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, protected by law (1).

A Roman period field system which lies south and east of East Force Garth, extending from Force Garth Quarry to Hag Sike. It consists of a mixture of rubble banked irregular fields on very stony ground, and slightly more regular, sub-rectangular, lyncheted fields on land more amenable to ploughing. An isolated hut circle lies within the field system, north of the access track to East Force Garth farm. The hut circle is visible as a circular level area with a slight stony bank round it. It measures about 7 metres in diameter. Scheduled. (2)
