Forcett Cottages - Gainford Tollhouse? 9/1974
A tollhouse is shown on the north side of the road here on the first edition Ordnance Survey map of circa 1860. It stood on the Stockton and Barnard Castle Turnpike (whose Act was in 1747). It is absent on later editions, so had been demolished by 1900.
