Illustration of a cup-and-ring-marked boulder, south-east of Osmaril Gill, Barningham Moor 1980-1997
This sandstone boulder has a single cup mark on it with a ring and arcs surrounding the cup. It was probably carved in the Early Bronze Age or Neolithic period. The purpose of these markings is not clear, although they may have had a religious function. This is a Scheduled Monument, protected by law (1).
