Cup- and groove-marked boulder, Eel Hill North, Barningham Moor, Teesdale (Barningham Moor)
This sandstone boulder has a number of prehistoric cup marks and grooves carved onto it. These depressions may be natural but were probably carved in the Early Bronze Age or Late Neolithic. The purpose of these carvings is not clear though they may have had a religious function. This is a Scheduled Monument protected by law (1).
