A small gold pendant was discovered on a building site and is now generally known as the Sacriston Pendant. It is a gold disc 19mm diameter with a setting for a now absent stone. This object is Anglo-Saxon in design, and probably dates to the 7th century AD. It is unusual for a piece such as this to be found so far north. It is now on display in the Bowes Museum.
