DLI Memorial Cottages AKA Durham Light Infantry Cottages, Back Western Hill, Durham (Durham City)

Two semi-detached two-storey Edwardian-style cottages built in 1903 and bearing plaques dedicating the buildings to the memory of soldiers from the Durham Light Infantry who fought in the South African War of 1899-1902. The houses are brick built and share a projected gable front facing Back Western Hill. Plaques are built into the front wall bearing the dedications.

Central plaque is a stone tablet bearing the D.L.I. badge in half relief and the date 1903.
A bronze shield-shaped plaque under the left upper storey window is inscribed: "Cottage Home / founded by the / Durham Light Infantry / 1903 / In memoriam / H.H. Prince Christian Victor / of Schleswig-Holstein"
Matching plaque under upper right window: "In memoriam, Ofiicers, N.C.O.s and men of the D.L.I. who fell in South Africa 1900-01-02". (1-2).
