Medieval iron bloomery and heap of iron slag, Old Peat Moor, Simy Folds West, Holwick (Holwick)

This is a mound of iron slag standing by a spring close to the shooting butts. It is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, protected by law (5).

A medieval iron bloomery located on the west side of a natural spring, 450m south west of Holwick Head House. A slag mound measures 6.4m by 7.4m and is 0.8m high with protruding stones that seem to be the site of the furnace. (6)
