War Memorial Garden and Pant, West Auckland (West Auckland)
War memorial garden created in 2009 in the area in front of the disused 19th Century pant (water fountain tower with pump) on the Village Green (1). Area was refurbished as part of the memorial creation and the pant has now become the centre piece to the memorial garden with new paving, a memorial sloping-topped stone placed near the foot of the tower with memorial plaques attached, stone benches added to the area in front of the monument and the addition of shrubs and flower borders. Dedication on the new memorial stone reads: "In Memory of those who gave their lives in the / first and second world wars and subsequent conflicts / that we may live in peace". Left plaque carries 71 First World War names (duplicating and adding to the names listed inside the village Memorial Hall built in 1925), right plaque carries 42 names for WW2 and a single name for the Northern Ireland conflict (2-3).
