War memorial statue unveiled in 1922 in the front grounds of the Aged Miners War Memorial Cottages that were built the previous year. Streetview images of 2011 (1) show that the memorial today consists of a rough granite pedestal with dedication plaques attached to four sides and a small metal spike in the top where a statue was once attached. The pedestal sits on a single step on a paved area of the cottage gardens. Photographic evidence on the North East War Memorials Project website show that there was once a life sized marble statue of a soldier standing on top of the pedestal resting on a reversed rifle. It is thought that the statue was destroyed or badly damaged and taken away for repair with plans to reinstate it around 2004, but seemingly this has not yet taken place. Inscription on the front: "Sacred / to the memory / of the Workmen / of Tursdale Colliery / who paid / the supreme sacrifice / in the war 1914-18. / Lest we Forget". 39 names listed in single columns on the remaining three sides (2-3).
