War Memorial Obelisk, North side of Main Street, Stainton (Stainton)
Obelisk of rough hewn Freestone obtained from Stainton quarry, set on a pedestal with upper and lower pediments with a single step at the base. Set within a gravelled circle at the head of a gravelled path approached through a gate through a low stone wall at the roadside. The whole is set within a walled square piece of land with grass and trees. Front face of the pedestal carries the dedication: "Lest We Forget / In grateful memory of / the men of this township who / fell in the Great War 1914-18". The names of the First World War dead are listed underneath the dedication in two columns, underneath which are the dates of the Second World War and two names related to that conflict.
