The first edition Ordnance Survey maps of the 1850's show a housing terrace here on the north side of Front Street close to the Oak Tree Public House (1). It is known that the Working Men's Club was open in 1920 as a First World War memorial plaque was unveiled here in that year (2), but the building is not labelled on any mapping data of the period. Streetview images show that the building was called the Sherburn Hill Club in 2009 (3) but it is not known if the club is still open or what has happened to the war memorial.
