Pelton Fell Memorial Park (Pelton Fell)

War Memorial Park located on Battle Green. Wrought iron gates at the entrance to park are set back from the Station Lane inside a semi-circular paved area enclosed at the sides by curving walls bearing the name of the park. The gates themselves are decorated with the dates of the First World War (1914 on the left gate, 1919 on the right) attached to tall sandstone pillars, each adorned with a wreath carved in half relief to match the wreath on the front face of the Cenotaph which is directly in line with the gates down the path. The memorial park comprises a bowling green, bandstand, shelters, paths, shrubs, lines of yew trees, herbaceous borders and lawns. It was officially opened in 1922. (1-2)

This site is included on the Local List of Historic Parks, Gardens and Designed Landscapes and is an important part of the County's cultural heritage. The site boundaries should be considered informative rather than definitive, and in some cases are still mapped as 'uncertain'. These boundaries represent the current understanding of where the main features of the asset are likely to lie within. For more information contact landscape@durham.gov.uk
