Grey granite obelisk with pedestal and three-tiered base located on an oval-shaped island garden site close to the Methodist Church on Horsemarket. The garden is encircled with a low stone kerb and pillars connected by black chain links. Front face of the tapering obelisk features a wreath carved in half relief whilst a shield is carved into each of the four faces of decorative collar between the shaft and the pedestal. Front face of the pedestal carries a marble panel dedicated to "Our Glorious Dead who fell in the Great War 1914-1918" with the names in two columns below. The front riser of the top tier of the base carries a quotation but all of the other faces of the tiered base are blank. A marble panel on the rear face of the pedestal bears the dates and names associated with the Second World War. A panel on one of the sides is dedicated to other individuals killed by the effect of service in war. Originally unveiled as a First World War memorial in 1921. (1-2)
