War Memorial Clock Tower, Horden Parish Council Memorial Park (Horden)
Horden Parish Council Memorial Park is located between Blackhills Road and Park Terrace, a strip of land on a SW-NE axis with playgrounds, gardens and an imposing clock tower erected around 1948 and dedicated as a First World War and WW2 memorial. The tower takes the form of a white lime washed stone column, 18ft high, in a similar shape to a classic Grandfather Clock. It has a square clock face with Roman numerals on the SW facing elevation and a large bronze sword on the central section of the main body. A protruding plaque towards the bottom of this face dedicates the tower as a: Memorial to the Martyred / Monument to Victory / 1914-18 1939-1945. Commissioned by the British Legion. (1-2).
