The first edition 1860's Ordnance Survey map shows a Primitive Methodist Chapel at the south western edge of the small hamlet of Lumley Thicks (1). The second edition 1890's OS map no longer labels a 'Primitive' Methodist Chapel in this area but does label a Methodist Chapel a little further to the north on the north western edge of the hamlet (2). It is possible that the new location was still used as a Primitive Methodist chapel and there is documentary evidence that in 1923 a war memorial table was presented to the church so it is likely that this chapel is the only one in use at this time (3). This chapel remains on OS maps up to the fifth epoch series in the 1950's (4), after which the building footprint is still shown but is no longer labelled as a chapel.
