Yorkshire stone memorial cross with wide tapering plinth incised with elaborate patterns sitting within a low octagonal stone-kerbed border between two sections of the path through the northern part of the churchyard. Dedication, to men of Gainford parish who laid down their lives in the First World War, is carried on a sunken panel on the front face of the memorial and carved to stand proud. The names of the WW1 dead are carved in a single column on an additional panel below the dedication. At the foot of the cross is a flat stone slab bearing the dates of WW2 and the names below, officers in one column and privates in two columns. Unveiled 1921, rededicated 1953. (1-2)
