St. Aidan's church was built in 1872 for the miners of Pity Me (0) and first appears on the second edition Ordnance Survey maps of 1894-1899 (2). The church is stone built with a pitched roof and short finial-style tower/belfry over the west facing gable end and today is located on the east side of Front Street set back behind a modernised church hall and partially secluded by trees. The church is known to contain a number of features dedicated as war memorials (3-4).
