East Hedleyhope Methodist Chapel (redundant) (East Hedleyhope)
East Hedleyhope Methodist Chapel was located at the western extremities of the village, first appearing as a small structure at the end of a row of colliery housing on the second edition Ordnance Survey map of 1894-99 (1). The structure is labelled as the Methodist chapel right through to seventh Epoch OS map data of the 1970's (2), after which it becomes associated with the Deerness Sport Club. It is documented that the building then became a garage for a small haulage firm (3) (supported by recent streetview images (4)). The chapel once contained a First World War memorial reredos screen with associated plaque. The location of the reredos is now unknown but the plaque remained in the structure even as a garage until 2006 when it was restored and moved to the East Hedleyhope Village Hall (3,5).
