Wesleyan Methodist Church, Fawcett Hill, Craghead (Craghead)
The Wesleyan Methodist chapel on Fawcett Hill first appears on the third edition Ordnance Survey map of 1919-1926 (1) at the western end of terraced housing between Wylam Street and Wagtail Lane. There is documentary evidence that the church contained at least two items dedicated as war memorials, one as early as 1919 (2) so the church must have been in existence prior to this. The building is labelled as a chapel on mapping data up to the 1970's (3). On modern streetview images (4) the church building is still located here although it is no longer used as a church and has been sold (2). The building is constructed of brick with a pitched roof. The north west gable fronting onto Wagtail Lane bears the entrance at the top of a stone staircase and a stained glass window in three lights with stone mullions.
