United Methodist Church (demolished), Cornsay Colliery (Cornsay Colliery)
Cornsay Colliery was established in the late 1860's, first appearing on the second edition Ordnance Survey map (1) and transforming the landscape in the area. The United Methodist church also shows up on the second edition map at the junction of High Street and Gillow(?) Street. The church and terraced housing of the colliery appear on mapping data right up until the 1970's (2), after which the buildings are all demolished and the land is grassed over. The church once contained a war memorial plaque that was moved to the church in Quebec when the church was demolished (3-4).
