War Memorial Cross, Welfare Park, Blackhall Colliery (Blackhall Colliery)

Large cross of Latin type on a tapering pedestal on a stone coursed base. The monument sits on a semi-circular raised platform with five steps leading up to the base. It is surrounded by bushes and flowers on a piece of grass close to the bowling green. Each side of the pedestal has been smoothed to bear the dedication (front) and the names of the war dead from various conflicts on each of the other three sides. Specifically mentioned: First World War, WW2 1939-45, Korean conflict. Most recently a plaque was added in 2011 dedicated to conflicts since the world wars. Designed in 1952. (1-2)
