Hawthorn; Cold Hesledon (Cold Hesledon)
A bronze axe was found here during work on the A19 in 1997. In form the axe is most closely paralleled with other examples from the Heathery Burn tradition suggesting a late Bronze Age date after 800 BC. At the time of the discovery it appears several other similar finds were made in the near vicinity. The location of these other items at the present time is unknown. It seems likely therefore that a hoard of such metal work had been deposited.
