This is an attractive little house that retains much of the form of the original 16th or 17th century bastle, although its upper part is all 19th-century rebuilding; however the byre doorway is a notable survival, being paralleled by several bastle doorways in Allendale. Prior to its recent remodelling and extension the ground floor was still in use as a byre. (1)
