Second World War Type 22 pillbox, variant. Situated on the North side of Hawthorn Burn at the mouth of Hawthorn Dene, at the base of the cliffs. Constructed of concrete during the period 1940-1. (1). The pillbox and barbed wire perimeter are visible as structures on aerial photographs (2).
