The hotel was formerly known as Raby Hotel. The stables were active during World War I (1). Raby Hotel was managed by John Ward in 1914 (2).

15 Market Place was also used as an office during World War I (1). It was occupied by Fred Merryweather, a hairdresser in 1914 (2).
