Stanhope Castle was built in 1798 on the site of a Medieval castle (D2326). The house was built for Cuthbert Rippon the MP for Gateshead. It was enlarged in 1875 to accommodate a collection of stuffed birds and minerals. It later became a school. In the 1990s it was divided into a number of used, mainly flats.

An 18th century house, now flats, built on the probable site of a 13th to 14th century castle. There are no visible remains of the latter. (15)
