It is a three-storey building of coursed rubble, its south front rendered. The main body is of two broad bays; it faces south. The character of its fabric and the two ground-level doorways points to a date no earlier than the mid-18th century, and it is probably best classed a byre house, a late example of the upstairs-living tradition, of a type more commonly seen around Alston.
