Church Of St All Saints AKA All Saints' Church, Hurworth-on-Tees (Hurworth)

Parish church. Partly medieval nave arcade; refaced, possibly 15th century tower heightened 1845; largely rebuilt 1831-2 by T. Tibbetts; nave aisles added 1845; transepts and chancel aisles added and church restored 1870 by J.P. Pritchett. Tooled dressed sandstone; graduated green slate roofs. Cruciform with aisles and west tower; chapel on north aisle; porch on south aisle. Geometrical and Decorated styles. The church appears to have been altered or rebuilt in the 12th century. The church was altered again in the 15th century, but as the church was almost completely rebuilt in the 1830s all that survives are part of the tower and the columns in the aisle.

The church is known to contain a number of features dedicated as war memorials.

The earliest evidence for a church at Hurworth is a fragment of an early 9th century Anglo-Saxon stone cross-base and a stone cross shaft just inside the south doorway. This is now in the Monks Dormitory, Durham. Three fragments of what appears to be a 9th century grave slab, 91.4cm long, circa 55.3cm wide and 18.5cm high, were found by Dr A MacDonald in a pile of stones at the corner of a lane at Hurworth, having been removed from a garden rockery where it had been for about half a century.
