This milestone, now protected as a Listed Building, was erected as part of the late 18th century West Auckland to Elishaw, (Northumberland, via Corbridge), turnpike road. It is a painted ashlar slab with a flat top. The inscriptions give the details for West Auckland and Corbridge - though of necessity the placenames have been abbreviated to WA and C.
