Before the widespread of water supplies in the 19th and 20th centuries most of the water consumed came from wells or springs in the immediately local area. This spring head is possibly 17th century. It is of coursed sandstone, with a pyramid 1m high. This is an unusual survival and is a Listed Building allowing so legal power towards its preservation.
