This is a listed building. A commemorative column lies to the east of Edleston House dating from around 1750 erected by Sir Hugh Smithson at Stanwick Park, North Yorkshire to commemorate the Peace of Aachen of 1748. The column was then re-erected by Robert Edleston in 1923 at Gainford. The column formerly supported a statue, now destroyed.
