This is a monument to those who died in the Wingate Grange Colliery disaster. It was erected in 1906 and designed by Douglas Crawford. The front panel is inscribed THIS MONUMENT WAS ERECTED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION TO THE MEMORY OF THE TWENTY SIX MEN WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE EXPLOSION AT WINGATE GRANGE COLLIERY; OCTOBER 14TH 1906. Remaining 3 panels in moulded surrounds name those killed. It is a Grade II listed building protectd by law.
