The Church of St. Mary the Virgin is the parish church of Horden. It was built in 1913 by J.D. Potts and Son, nicknamed "the miners' cathedral" due to the fact that Horden was said at one time to be the largest single pit in England (1). It is cross-shaped in plan and has a tower. It was designed in the Gothic style. (1)
The church is known to contain a number of features dedicated as war memorials (2-3).
It is a Grade II listed building protected by law.
