This is a listed building. Alwent Mill and Mill Race is a watermill dating from 1792 with some later 19th century additions. Constructed of dressed sandstone with an ashlar mill race including cast-iron and timbler mill wheel. Alwent Mill is one of the few watermills in County Durham with its machinery still in situ and it remained in use until about 1948. (1)

Water-powered mill for grinding corn. Dated 1792 with later 19th century alterations. Dressed sandstone with ashlar mill race; cast-iron and timber mill wheel; pantiled roof with triple course of sandstone flags at eaves of central section and single row to left section. 2 storeys, 4 bays. (2)

This water powered corn mill is probably the only entirely complete mill remaining in County Durham. It was converted to a house in the 1990s. A stone over the door is dated 1792. (8) (9)
