The Church of St James is the parish church of Castle Eden. It is dated to 1764, built on the site of the former 12th century Chapel of St James, though includes earlier medieval masonry in the west end and tower. The aisles were added circa 1800 and the chancel was rebuilt in 1896. Inside are a number of 19th century memorial stones. (1)

There are a number of features in the church associated with the commemoration of fallen soldiers in the First World War and World War II (2-3).

This was the first Gothic Revival church completed in the North.

This is a Grade II listed building protected by law.
