Durham Prison (D and A Wings), Old Elvet, Durham 2005
D and A wings of Durham Prison were built at some point in the mid-19th century, before 1852. The interior of the wings have open central wells with iron staircases leading to long balconies from which the cells are entered; this plan allows efficient supervision through good views of the whole block. These are Grade II Listed Buildings protected by law.
