This road bridge goes across the River Wear. It is probably fourteenth century in date, but the end arches were rebuilt in 1770 and the parapet widened in 1822. This is a Grade I Listed Building protected by law.

First mentioned in 1346 when a skirmish was fought prior to the battle of Neville's Cross. The bridge is originally reported as having three arches, there are now four. In 1769 the south arch collapsed and the north arch was rebuilt. The parapet was widened in 1822. Walls were added to the ends in the 19th century. Scheduled and listed.
