First World War memorial. Unveiled 1921 for the workmen and officials of Tudhoe Colliery. White granite life-size, well-cut figure of a grieving woman in simple drapery, with one leg forward and hands resting clasped below waist, standing on a grey granite pedestal within a small enclosure. Gothic-lettered inscription is carried on a polished grey panel with a domed top on the front of the pedestal: 'Erected / by the / workmen and officials / of Tudhoe Colliery / in memory of / their comrades who died / for their country in the / Great War 1914-1918'. Names are carried on the bottom of the front panel and on panels of a similar shape on the other three sides of the pedestal. 8 tapered granite dwarf piers with pointed tops are linked by iron rails, and have a chain formed by cast-iron leafy motifs looped between them, forming a square enclosure to the plinth.
