This is the west range of Durham Castle - including the kitchen and hall with two staircases. It is now a college of the university. The undercroft of the hall was built in the 11th century and the hall dates to the late 13th century and was extended southwards c. 1350. The staircase in front of the kitchen dates to the 13th century, and the grand staircase was added in 1662 for Bishop Cosin. There are later 19th century alterations. This is a Grade I Listed Building, thus protected by law.
