Castle Hill is the remains of a medieval motte and bailey castle. The central mound is surrounded by a ditch and earth bank. There are more earth banks on each site of the site. To the south of the mound is a large enclosure surrounded by a ditch. Another enclosure, rectangular in shape stands to the north of the mound. The castle was probably built in 1143 during a war between Roger Conyers, Lord of Bishopston and the Bishop of Durham. This is a Scheduled Ancient Monument protected by law.
