Medieval iron bloomery site, Shipley Banks Wood, Marwood (Eggleston)

Three mounds of iron slag stand on the east side of a hollow trackway to the east of the stream. The date of this metalworking is not known. (1)

A medieval iron bloomery site located in Shipley Banks Wood, 500m south of High Shipley. Two slag heaps are situated at the north end of the site, parted by a linear hollow. The western mound measures 12.7m by 4m and is up to 1m high, and the east mound measures 16m by 3m. The furnace seems to be between the mounds at the northern end of the hollow where there are several deepset stones. To the south is a third mound measuring 8.5m by 5.5m and is up to 1.25m high. (2)
