The Newcastle kiln was so named due to its once prevalence throughout the North East. Once a common feature in the landscape there are now only few surviving examples.
The Wolsingham kilns are the remains of two late examples of Newcastle brick kilns which were used for the manufacture of bricks between the 1930s and 1950s.
